Unit 6

What we learned in unit 6 is how acceleration applies to Newton's Laws. We found the equation F (force) = m (mass) a (acceleration). From this equation we can find that acceleration is directly proportional to force and is inversely proportional to mass. With objects, all force applied on the same object is the same, it has an action - reaction result. However, the only difference is in the mass and acceleration. If an object has a huge mass, it has a small acceleration and vise versa to keep the force balanced. Like for example, with this dog shown below, as he pulls up his paw to scratch his face, even though the paw seems like it is hitting his face, the same force is being applied to both parts on his body. With the force he is using in his paw, can also be looked at oppositely as a force from his head hitting his paw. Because his head has more inertia, capability to stay in that same motion, from having more mass, his head is able to stay still while the paw hits it. With knowing this dog's head has more mass than the paw, this means that for both forces to be equal, the acceleration of the head must be smaller than the paw's acceleration to get the same number of newtons (force).
